Founded by Rinor Komoni, the practice is a full-service architecture office. With the addition of Artan Hoxha in 2023 and Thomas Wilson in 2024, its leadership brings more than seventy-five years of combined experience on highly ambitious projects in the United States and abroad.

We are known for getting through the technical problems other teams stall on, and for staying close to our clients while we do it.

Design Development — 13,150 m²

A landmark mixed-use tower combining hotel, office and retail. A play of forms creates a programmatic distinction between the uses and a separation between them. Two towers forming an L-shape and an office glass cube create an inviting gesture from the street.

Workplace interior design

A hospitality-driven workplace using natural materials, plants and ethnographic elements of Kosovo's culture, designed to feel more like a home than an office.

Custom furniture design

A dining table inspired by origami geometry. The solid oak top is engraved with a geometric pattern and inlaid with steel and brass, drawn from traditional ornamental motifs, and carried on sculptural folded-steel legs in matte black. Designed and built for a private client.

A CNC-cut desk made from a single material, birch plywood, with every component nested on one standard sheet. Each piece is oriented to provide rigidity to the work desk and maximize size.

A curved white oak volume lifted on a recessed brushed steel plinth, with a solid oak countertop and bullnose edges, paired with a matching low credenza. Designed for a client office in NYC.

Consulted for Coop Himmelb(l)au over several months, leading the formation of a specialized airport architecture team for Al Maktoum International Airport across the Vienna and Dubai offices.

Client representative for the fit-out of their new Manhattan office, an open-plan workspace. Represented the tenant through design coordination, construction and closeout.

  • Advised on design improvements and coordinated with architect, contractor and consultants
  • Managed schedule, punch list and closeout through to move-in
  • Designed the custom reception desk and the entry improvements

Rinor spent a decade managing the design and delivery of landmark airport terminals across Asia and the Middle East, as Senior Associate Principal and Design Manager.

KPF won the international competition in 2018. Rinor was assigned as Design Manager for the T5C satellite terminal through concept design, and T5B through schematic design.

  • Daily coordination with the New York office, reviewing deliverables against the client brief
  • Weekly client working sessions and biweekly team design reviews
  • Led the baggage handling, people mover and MEP specialist workshops once or twice a week

Abu Dhabi International Airport, Midfield Terminal

Construction Administration Manager, 7 years on site

Seven years as site architect for one of the world's most anticipated single-terminal buildings, from construction documentation through full delivery. The airport, now Zayed International, was named the World's Most Beautiful Airport at the 2024 Prix Versailles.

  • Design supervision of façade, roof, pavilions and passenger conveying systems
  • Fire and life safety strategy, Civil Defense, airside and landside security

KPF won the international competition in 2009. The New York studio led the roof design while the Shanghai team drove terminal planning. Phase one completed in 2014.

The people

Rinor Komoni

Rinor Komoni AIA, LEED AP

Principal and Founder

Licensed in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts

Rinor is the founder and principal of Komoni Architecture, a New York City based practice. He brings nearly two decades of international experience, including more than ten years dedicated to two of the world's most celebrated airport projects. Born and raised in Kosovo, he moved to the United States at seventeen and earned his Master of Architecture in Vermont before joining Kohn Pedersen Fox in New York in 2008, working on large-scale projects and urban planning in China. In 2010 he moved to Abu Dhabi, where he spent seven years on the construction of what is now Zayed International Airport. He moved to Singapore in 2018 as Design Manager for Changi Terminal 5, a role he held until setting out on his own in 2022. He now leads the practice from New York with the rigor of large-scale aviation work and the attention of a founder-led studio.

Thomas Wilson

Thomas Wilson AIA

Principal and Director of Operations

Licensed in New York, previously licensed in more than 30 states

Tom brings over fifty years of experience in architecture, design and construction. After graduating from Hartwick College he served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Europe, overseeing engineering plans for four years. He earned a Master's in Architecture from the University of Oklahoma and became Director of Planning and Construction Services for the Oklahoma State Health Care System. In 1980 he founded Architectural Design Group, which grew past one hundred employees and worked in thirty states across healthcare, education, hospitality, housing, museums, sport and aviation. He retired in 2022 and moved to New York City, where he met Rinor and began advising him on building the firm.

Principal

Licensed architect, Kosovo

Artan holds a Master's from the Faculty of Architecture in Prishtina and has more than twenty years of experience across residential, commercial and hospitality work. Starting at Anarch in 2006, he played an integral role in some of Southeastern Europe's most significant projects, including the design and management of Klan Kosova Studios and Theatre. He served as managing architect during construction of the Prishtina Mall, working directly for the owner to deliver the largest mall in Southeast Europe, built to American and European standards.
